Bio

Bret Contreras

I am an up-and-comer in the Strength & Conditioning Industry. I have been referred to as “one of the most innovative trainers in the industry” and “one of the brightest young minds in the fitness field,” but I suspect that the individuals who said that were inebriated when they uttered those words!

I received my bachelor’s degree from NAU and master’s degree from ASU. I left a 6-year job as a high school mathematics teacher to pursue a career in the fitness industry. I received a CSCS certification from the NSCA and opened up my own training studio called Lifts in Scottsdale. I created some very unique training methods that seem to be catching on in the fitness industry. Last year I decided to close up my studio so I could focus on writing. I wrote an eBook on the glutes called “Advanced Techniques in Glutei Maximi Strengthening” and have gotten some articles published on TMuscle.Com, StrengthCoach.Com, and Elitefts.Com.

I absolutely love lifting weights, training others, and learning more about fitness. There is an almost unlimited amount of information to learn about how the human body responds to various forms of training and I want to know it all!!! I plan on getting my PhD in Kinesiology at ASU (if all goes well I’ll start next year), writing more articles and books, and speaking at various seminars.

 Advanced Glute Strengthening - eBook

While training women and athletes at his Scottsdale fitness studio, Bret Contreras “The Glute Guy”, a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and personal trainer, developed some unique exercises and methods that target the glutes. Suspecting that his methods were much more effective than what the so-called “experts” were doing, Contreras ventured out to scientifically measure how hard the glutes were contracting during various “glute” exercises. He was trained by Noraxon to test the electrical activity of muscles, a process known as electromyography or EMG.

As “The Glute Guy” Contreras's innovative new glute exercises provide a pump and burning sensation in the glutes; something that cannot be said of squats, deadlifts, or lunges, so they let you know you’re working the right area.

Another caveat to these exercises is that they are much easier on the knees and lower back than squats, deadlifts, and lunges. Possessing strong glutes will bullet-proof the body from knee, lower back, hamstring, and groin injuries.
